The Month of Thanksgiving – 8, 9, & 10

I am thankful that I remembered today. For some reason I neglected to give a thanks for the 8th and the 9th; so I will include them today.

For Friday November the 8th I am thankful for the sunshine, and its warmth for the day, for our well, and that I was able to tend its need, which I had overlooked for some time.

For Saturday November the 9th I am thankful for the day Madge and I spent together going to the Queen City of the Ozarks, seeing both daughters, getting a couple of beds for our bedrooms, the visit with Larry and Margaret; and the beautiful drive home through Ozark, Highlandville, Abesville, Galena, and through Wheelerville, and on home. It is a wonderful drive through God’s country and country side.

Today, Sunday November 10, It is Veteran’s Day for remembering all who have signed that blank check even to the giving of their lives if necessary; thankful for all the sacrifices they have made for our Nation.

Thankful for the Lord’s work in my life and for His work in all our lives.  God is good, great, awesome, and glorious. He is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving.

Thankful from the banks of Flat Creek,

The Month of Thanksgiving

The day of Thanksgiving in the month of November, this year on the 28th day of the month is a National Holiday.  I am, however a man who enjoys being thankful everyday.

So for the month of November on this blog site I am planning on giving you at least one thing I am thankful for.  We need to ask the question; “To whom are we to be thankful?”

Yes we are to be thankful to family, wife for her husband, and the other way around. Thankful for the things others do for you. To whom are we to give thanks ultimately?

Our thanks, ultimately, should be to our Creator who is our Lord, our Savior, and God, and Sustainer.

Today, I am grateful and thankful for the ability to move my fingers, my hands, my toes and feet, to move my legs, and that I can walk, even run some; and I can thank no one else but my Lord and God. So here it is…

Thank You Father for all the above.

Was the U. S. of A. Built Upon Christian Principles?

Here is a quote from the book THE REBIRTH OF AMERICA:

“In his stirring anthem to the solidity of the Christian faith, George Chapman penned the now- familiar words, ‘How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!” And how appropriate are these words when correlated to America’s glorious heritage.

This nation, without reasonable doubt, was established on the firm foundation of Scripture. Our forefathers, brilliant as they were, openly acknowledged the true genius behind the new system to be the eternal principles of God’s Word. The most fundamental concepts of the republic find their roots in the Bible. From the beginning, the basis for law and government in American society was decidedly biblical. What’s more, the new land was forged through the energy of the Judeo-Christian work ethic.

The United States in her first century of existence knew the stinging reality of conflict. There were wars, assassinations, injustices, catastrophes, and plagues of disease. But the young nation endured, for its moral fabric had been woven with the durable threads of Scriptural truth. Societal ills, like slavery, were ultimately recognized for what they were: violations of God’s standard.

The record of the establishment of America bears the clear stamp of Christian influence. The impact of the Gospel is evident in the leaders chosen, the laws written, and the sweeping changes brought about through the transforming power of Christ in individual lives and corporate experience. America was not formed a nation apart from God, but a nation under God”

The nation that was built on the principles of the Word of God is quickly becoming a nation forsaking the Word of God. When we have Muslims protesting our freedom to remember the birth of Christ in our Schools, and one or more schools have already banned Christmas due to such protest, then we have fallen terribly. May God help us.

Bibles in the United States of America

Did the Bible play a part in the building of the Nation called the United States of America? My answer to that is a certain YES!! Anyone with any true historical knowledge knows that to be true. Let me give you some history on this matter of the Bible and our Nation.

“WHEN AMERICA CRIED FOR BIBLES Even the U.S. Congress cleared a printing of Bibles, and American statesmen helped spread them throughout the land”

“The American Revolution was in full swing. The Bible, through more than one hundred fifty years of early settlement in America, remained the base of her education, her colonial government. These Bibles had been shipped in from England

Now, suddenly the American Revolution cut off this supply, and the stock dwindled.

Here was America in its greatest crisis yet–and without Bibles! Patrick Allison, Chaplain of Congress, placed before that body in 1777 a petition praying for immediate relief. it was assigned to a special committee which weighed the matter with great care, and reported: ‘…that the use of the Bible is so universal and its importance so great that your committee refer the above to the consideration of Congress, and if Congress shall not think it expedient to order the importation of types and paper, the Committee recommend that Congress will order the Committee of Congress to import 20,000 Bible from Holland, Scotland, or elsewhere, into the different parts of the States of the Union.

‘Whereupon it was resolved accordingly to direct said Committee to import 20,000 copies of the Bible.’ During the session in the fall of 1780 the need arose once more.

Robert Aitken, who had set up in Philadelphia as a bookseller and publisher of The Pennsylvania Magazine, saw the need and set about quietly to do something about it.

In early 1781 he petitioned Congress and received from them a green light to print the Bibles needed. The Book came off the press late next year, and Congress approved it.

So originated the ‘Bible of the Revolution,’ now one of the world’s rarest books–the first American printing.”

From THE REBIRTH OF AMERICA published by the Author S. DeMoss Foundation, 1986.

I find it very interesting how the liberal people of the USA cannot find any truth about this. It may just be because they are blind to Truth, especially concerning the Bible God’s Word.

My Thoughts on a Former President

Many of the people who are patriots of our nation have no clue of the danger that is lurking at our doors. Terrorism is not the real threat to us, it is only a symptom. Illegal immigration is not the real threat to our nation. In writing this I certainly do not mean to sound so negative, or opposed to our nation, but I am really trying to defend us, and get us headed in the right direction.

The real threat to our nation is the idolatry pervading our land. The idolatry of technology, medicine, money/finance, recreation, comfort, convenience, even the idolizing of our children. Globalization is also an idol of many. The people involved in this seems to thing if we could just have one world peace, one world economy, one world religion, then all would be well. That is a farce.

When we have a former President of our Country saying that our nation is evil for its support of Israel then, we have problems, and I for one am glad to call him a “Former President”. The man no longer has a heart for our Country. It seems more that he has his heart set on being a world leader, than a man of God, I once thought him to be. I have never thought Jimmy Carter to have been a good President, but I did see him as a good Christian, he seemed to care for the poor, and our nation, but not any longer. He would give us all over to the hands of Satan.

The following is a quote printed from Baptist Press concerning Jimmy Carter’s comments at a human rights conference in Dublin, Ireland on June 19, 2007;

“The United States and European Union should recognize the terrorist organization Hamas as a legitimate component of the Palestinian government, former President Jimmy Carter said at a human rights conference in Dublin, Ireland, June 19.Hamas, he said, had won free and fair elections in 2006, making the United States’ refusal to aid the Palestinian faction and recognize its right to govern a “criminal” act.Carter said he believes both Western governments and Israel are favoring the rival Fatah party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, which now only governs the West Bank. Fatah also governed the Gaza Strip until Hamas fighters violently overthrew the party there earlier in June. Hamas, which executed members of the rival party in the street after its victory, had prevailed over the Fatah-controlled security forces in Gaza because of its fighters’ “superior skill and discipline,” Carter said.”

It is despicable, at least to myself, to hear a former leader of the United States of America say such traitorous things. It certainly shows he has no idea of God’s promises to the Nation of Israel. The trouble makers in the Middle East is not Israel, but the Palestinians. Their own proclaimed goal is the extinction of Israel. When will this former leader open his eyes and see the truth? Maybe he has a personal agenda in this. If he thinks he is a “Peacemaker” as in Jesus’s words, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9), he had better rethink that thought. It does not fit with the agenda.

My thoughts from June 28, 2007 are still the same.

Remembering a Patriot and a Man of God

This is from May 16, 2007

A Patriot Has Died

The man was not involved in the political process until he heard of the legalization of abortion. He thought of the millions of unborn children who would be slaughtered by those whose main objective was not women’s rights, but profits.
Dr. Jerry Falwell was a man who first of all loved the LORD God, loved his family, and loved his Country. He was motivated to help point this nation back to its Judeo/Christian roots.
I had grown not to agree with all that the “Religious Right” was doing. It just seems that many there believed that the answer for all our moral ills was in the political process. My belief is that the answer for the Country’s moral ills is a change of heart in people through the cross of Jesus Christ. I know and believe that Dr. Falwell believed that too, but he wanted people to be motivated to get out and vote their Christian conscience. And, I have, as well as many others.
Those who know Dr. Falwell would be able to say that he was a genuine Christian man. He sincerely believed and with conviction that what he has done was for God, Country, and his fellow American.
There is no doubt in my mind that Jerry Falwell loved God, His Word, His people, His Church and people in general. It seems that all that he did he believed he was right in doing so, until he found it to be wrong.
Keep his family, Thomas Road Baptist Church, and Liberty University in your prayers.

Sorghum, and the Mill

As I was on my way to Shell Knob today I drove past an old decaying, falling in building that was built by my Dad and a cousin named Harold (my Dad’s nephew).  They had a dream, and desire to supply an income for their families, and grow in the process of making this dark, syrupy, fragrant, and sticky stuff called sorghum.

I have some pictures I want to share with those who will come here to read and see them. The first one is of a plaque my wife made for me of the old can label they had put together for the sale and promotion of their business.

The next two pictures are of the old mill which they built using cedar logs set in the ground.  They then built a base to set the sorghum pan upon of rock and clay or cement.  They were a couple of men who did not have much money, but they had a little bit of a dream, and desire to make a good product; and they set to it.

I was standing next to the road by the gate into this property which belongs to a brother of Harold’s now.I was able to figure out how to do a zoom in on the camera of my phone.

I remember this quite well as a young boy in the early 1960’s  When they were making sorghum there were trees all round the back and to the east side (right) and my cousin who was nearer my age at the time ran through those woods having a great time.

Sorghum is made through squeezing sorghum cane, which my Dad and Harold grew on the ridge somewhat nearby.  They would take a tractor and wagon, go with cane knives, and cut down a heaped up load, and bring it back to the mill to make the sweet sorghum.

Before they squeezed the cane on the press, they would light a fire under the pan, get the heat going, then they let the juice roll down the delivery chute.

We used to eat quite a bit of Sorghum cake.  Pretty good stuff  putting butter on while it was still hot is delicious.

Most sorghums you find in store nowadays is mixed with corn syrup which ruins the good flavor.

Well that is really only part of the story.  My Dad and Harold are in heaven together now.

I just thought I would share something that was part of my upbringin’ as a child.

Getting Ready for Sunday

It is Friday January 11, 2019 and Sunday is coming.

There are many who think Sunday is just another day of the week.  It is, in fact, the first day of each week, and the day the early Christians met in remembrance of our Lord’s resurrection.

I have never tried to hide the fact that I am a follower of Jesus Christ.  I do not believe in Him because I am fearful of eternity’s fire if I do not.  I believe in Him and follow Him because He loved me, and loves me so much that He proved it.

In recent years I have grown to a place in Him that I never doubt or question His love for me.  What I do question and sometimes doubt is my love for Him.

My goal throughout every week is to Get Ready for Sunday.  The day I join with a few others to lift up the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in our place of worship;  singing hymns of worship and praise, praying, and to preach and hear the preaching of the word of God.

I pray that anyone who is reading this is like minded, and you are preparing yourself to meet the Lord, with those of like mind in Church on Sunday.  It will surely improve your heart, mind, and attitude through the coming week.

If you are not getting ready for Sunday you may not be ready for the day the Son returns.

God richly bless you

Only Since July Fifth

The title of this writing is how long it has been since I posted anything here.  School has gotten back in session in every location that I am aware of and is certainly true for Cassville School District for which I drive a bus.

Here we are just six days away from Thanksgiving Day and only 38 days until Christmas.  Wow!  How time flies by.

Back in October around the 23rd of the month our daughter, and oldest child had a stroke, and was hospitalized for about 5 days plus.  She is home doing well, and is recovering.  Please pray for Charity and continued recovery.  She is gradually recovering strength, still needs the prayers of the warriors of Christ to intercede for her.

My oh my how the world needs to know the God of the Bible, the Father of Jesus Christ; He who sent His only Son to die in our place, to redeem us unto Himself.

It has certainly been a beautiful Fall season.  Temperatures have been a little colder than normal, but hey, I live in Missouri.  You never know what the weather will be like.  There is a saying that has been said around our parts, “If you don’t like the weather; stick around for a bit, it’ll change.”

If I do not get back to this site to leave a message of Thanksgiving blessing or Merry Christmas; let me give it to you now.  HAVE BLESSED THANKSGIVING DAY,   a very MERRY CHRISTMAS.  I will always keep Christ in the season.  He is the reason for the season.

What a Wonderful Life

It is wonderful, and a blessing from Almighty God to be a citizen and living in the United States of America. Some may laugh when I say this, but I really do endeavor to stay out of political issues.  There are times that I feel I must open my mouth, and many times insert foot.

There is much in our government that is evil, wretched, and almost beyond my comprehension.  I do not understand how a man could run for the office of the Governor of a State, shortly after having a sexual encounter with a woman, not his wife, and then portray himself as a “Family man”, but it has happened; and not only a family man, but a “Religious man” as well.

Then, our President has a very bad habit of name calling which is not only uncouth but ungodly and not Christ-like in any possible way.  He, however, is not perfect, and neither am I; and that does not excuse the vile words he or anyone else uses.  We ought to challenge ourselves to do better with our words, our vocabulary.  I heard many years ago that an individual who cusses is showing their lack of education.  Let us all become better educated with good, wholesome, and encouraging words; rather than always trying to denigrate others.

To be honest with you I am completely disgusted with the politics of our day. Neither party can be trusted to do what the people desire, and they certainly are not into doing what God and His word say. I place my trust in God the Father, and His Son Jesus to superintend the events of every day of my life, the family, the State, and the federal government, and the world governments.

I will pray for our Governor and the President, do what I can as a citizen of this nation, and I will continue to live as a citizen of Heaven because that is the home for which my heart longs.

What a wonderful life it is when you put your faith and trust in the Lord, our Creator, rather than in the governments of men.

I Am A Country Boy

I was country from the day I was born.  Born in a little rural town called Cassville at the age of newborn.  Raised on a family farm.  Learned how to handle a rifle, at the age of 8 – 10 Do not remember the age.  I think I was deer hunting alone by the time I was 12.

Hank Junior used to have a real popular song, “A Country Boy Can Survive”; and I do have a shot gun, a rifle and four wheel drive.  The four wheel drive is a Ford Super Duty F250.

The farming is my brother’s work now.  I live on my grandparents place.  It is the place where my Dad was born.  The house he was born in is still here.  I believe it is over 100 years old.  I still use the well that was drilled in the early 1900’s.  Not sure of the year, and it is only 30 feet deep.

No!  The well does not have the old hand pumper.  It does have an electric submersible pump, and still does a fair job of pumping water.  Thank the Lord for that every day.

As a Country Boy I have learned my survival is not dependent upon having that shotgun, rifle, or the four wheel drive.  My survival is dependent, every day, upon God the Father giving me my next breath of air, and the next beat of my heart.  Without Him I would not be living.

My survival is not dependent upon government either.  What they give they can take away.  Just ask the Native American we have called “Indians”.  Yes sir, and Yes Mam.  I survive as a Country Boy because the Creator of this Universe, and everything in it has me in His hands.

Thank God I am a country boy.

What Is Going On?

What is going on at your house today?  There is no classes in Cassville Schools today; and of that I am sure the kids are glad.

By the way; I hope no one is offended by me calling children “Kids”.  I have always called them “Kids”.  I probably always will.  If you are offended by that, just do not read this blog anymore.  Now that is a statement isn’t it?

Too many people are offended by whatever offends them.  Do I ever get offended?  Most certainly I do.  Do I tell people that what they said offends me?  Maybe!  Maybe not.  How ever I respond to them I do not start a riot, or set up a blockade to try and cause that sort of speech to stop.  Maybe I am offended that you are offended by what I say.  So what.

Let me help you here if it does not offend you.  Let it roll off your sleeves.  Get up. Get out. Make a difference in your life today, by doing something.  Do something for someone who has offended you.  There is a catcher.  Right.  Do something for someone who has offended you.  I mean something good.

If it is an offensive neighbor take them some of their favorite cookies.  If their lawn needs mow; mow their yard without expecting anything in return.  In fact do not let them know you did it.  You might find yourself with a better neighbor, and find yourself to be a better neighbor.

You also might take being offended a whole lot better.

What is going on  at your house, in your life today?

Book Review: The Failure of Sex Education in the Church – Mistaken Identity, Compromised Purity

Let me first apologize to Linda Bartlett the author.  See left a message on my blog asking if I would like to receive the book for review.  I told her that I would love to.  That was back in July 2014, and I received it that same month.

To be honest with you I have not finished the book.  I have found it interesting, educational, and very bold.  It is literally a book that ask many questions, and she gives her answers as well as the answers of others.

One question that is asked is this, “Is sex education in the church distinctively different?”  I do not want to give away any answers, except to peak your interest in the book.  In short to the answer “No!” On page 23 near the end of chapter one Linda Bartlett writes, “Danger lurks when we let sexuality shape our identity.”  That is what I see is the idea behind this book.  And, I do believe it is a Biblical and correct view of human sexuality.  We are much more than sexual beings.

In the final paragraph of Chapter Eleven Mrs. Bartlett writes, “God’s Word does not provide a model for sex education, but it consistently tells us to train in holiness.  Being holy means resisting our own sinful passions and replacing false sentiments with godly ones.”

Any time the Church is dependent on worldly ideas and detract from the Word of God we will get it wrong.  Linda Bartlett speaks of Kinsey, and others who are responsible for the “we are sexual beings” thought.  And Mrs. Bartlett tells us that there is no place in Scripture that says that.  We are told, however, that we were made in the image and likeness of God.

Every parent and teenager needs to read this book.

Getting a Good Hard Rain

We have been blessed with rain through the night.  It was quite pleasant to wake a few time in the night and hear the drops of heaven playing their lovely song on our roof.

Even now as I write there is a gentle rainfall; with thunder, lightening, and rolling thunder.  I love the sounds the heavens make, declaring the blessings of our Lord.

First Snow of the Season

On the afternoon of December 5th we started receiving freezing precipitation in the form of freezing rain, sleet and later turning to snow.  At present (5 a.m. CT) it is still snowing; though, it does seem to have slowed a bit.

Looking out the window in the light from the porch light there appears to be approximately 1 foot of snow.  I measured it  around 7:45 p.m yesterday, and it measured 6 inches.

Snow is a beauty.  It covers all the trash on the ground, hangs on the leaves of the trees giving them an essence of cleanliness, and holiness.  My how our Creator reminds us of Himself; and what He desires from us.

Enjoy the snow.  Pray for those who have to work in it.  Those who need to be on our highways, turnpikes, interstates, and freeways; whether just traveling to work, home; but especially those who labor in the cold of winter, snow is a hazard to their health and life.  That includes those who keep our electric power going, our roads cleared off, and God forbid, dealing with home fires, health needs, etc.  Thank the Lord for all of them.
